Warrant Sweep in IB Nets 15 Arrests

Deputies fanned out on Friday, looking for people wanted on felony and misdemeanor warrants.

Sheriff’s deputies conducted a warrant sweep in Imperial Beach on Friday, looking for people wanted on various felony and misdemeanor warrants. The operation resulted in 15 arrests and cleared 20 warrants, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Several teams of deputies from the Court Services Bureau knocked on doors looking for wanted people from 5 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. All of the suspects taken into custody were booked into San Diego Central Jail.

Deputies arresting a Coronado man for violating probation for DUI found 22 marijuana plants growing on his back porch, according to the department. James Gordon Duff, 50, was arrested at his home on the 600 block of Eighth Street, and Coronado police obtained a search warrant for the home and found additional plants growing in the garage, according to authorities.

With thousands of people descending on Imperial Beach this weekend for the Sandcastle Competition, the Sheriff’s Department is adding extra resources to the area.

“This is also during Sandcastles weekend, and we’re showing a larger presence of law enforcement out here to ensure the protection of the public,” said Sgt. J.T. Faulkner.

The Sheriff’s Department did not release a list of those taken into custody during the sweep or their violations.
