Woman Sexually Assaulted, Threatened with Knife

The attack occurred at about 1:15 a.m. No arrests have been made.

A woman walking on 5th Street around 1:15 a.m. Sunday was sexually assaulted by a man with a knife, said the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

The victim said she was approached by a man who asked for a cigarette when the attack occurred, said Sgt. Fran Passalacqua.

The man then took out a knife and forced the woman into a driveway where she was sexually assaulted.

"She was able to escape and ran towards a couple who was walking in the area for help," said Lt. James Bolwerk in a stetement released Sunday afternoon. The woman then used the couples phone to call 911.

Deputies attempted to find the man with the help of a helicopter and dogs but were unsuccessful. Detectives from the sheriff's Sex Assault Unit also responded.

The woman described the man as a 6'1" black male in his thirties that weights about 170 pounds and has short hair. He was wearing a white shirt and dark shorts at the time of the incident.

Too bad the victim was not carrying a gun; so she could have ended it in an appropriate manner. This is the worst type of predator. John Gardner comes to mind. I am glad the victim is alive. I hope the sheriff catches this creep, and he resist arrest, and justice is served.

Too bad she didn't know/use basic self defense. However, when a majority of people are put in the same situation (not ripping on you "IB needs us", I concur), they would freeze.

I guess it's time some of us IB folks need to start patrolling the city late at night to tip police of possible suspicious persons in the area.
