Runoff Closes Imperial Beach Shoreline

Runoff potentially contaminated with sewage from the Tijuana River triggered the closure of the entire Imperial Beach shoreline Tuesday by county officials.

The County Department of Environmental Health (DEH) ordered the Imperial Beach coastline closed Tuesday morning due to runoff from the Tijuana River.

"Observations today indicate northward moving ocean currents and contamination of ocean water at Imperial Beach is suspected," a DEH statement said.

The SCCOOS tracker at the mouth of the Tijuana River found a high of 52 million gallons a day flowing from the river Monday evening.
