Roy Heringer Named New Captain of Imperial Beach Sheriff's Station

Heringer will replace David Myers who was the station's Captain for a little over a year.

The Sheriff's Department named Roy Heringer the new Captain of the Imperial Beach Sheriff's station Friday.

He replaces David Myers, who was the station's Captain since June 2010 and last month .

Myers is now the Captain for the Special Investigations Division in Kearny Mesa. Lisa Miller was the previous Captain from November 2007 to June 2010.

"Transfers at all levels of the organization occur fairly frequently," said Melissa Aquino with the Sheriff's Department's Media Relations.

"Exposing our employees to a variety of assignments aids in their career development and often brings new ideas and energy to their new assignments. There is nothing out of the ordinary about the transfers involving Captain Roy Heringer and Captain Dave Myers."

"Both are valued and accomplished members of the Sheriff's executive staff and each is very well qualified to command any division within the organization," she said.

Heringer was most recently assigned to the sheriff's Special Investigations Division where he oversaw the Sheriff Department’s participation in various task force operations that included the North and East County Regional Gang Task Forces, Narcotics Task Force, the Regional Auto Theft Task Force, the U.S. Marshall's Fugitive Task Force and the Sheriff's Criminal Intelligence Detail.

He has also worked with the Sheriff's Detention Facilities, patrol support in various capacities, and the SWAT team.

While working for the SWAT team, Heringer was a Federal Aviation Administration-certified explosive detection, K-9 handler and a member of the Sheriff's Dive and Recovery Team.

He also worked in the Sheriff's Internal Affairs Unit and the Sheriff's Training Division.

In the past Heringer has worked in Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, Lemon Grove, Spring Valley, Santee, Lakeside and Alpine. This is his first position in Imperial Beach.

“In my more than 29 years with the Sheriff's Department, I am pleased to say I have enjoyed a very rewarding and fulfilling career and I look forward to continuing to do so for several more years in the future,” Heringer said in a press release.

“I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity to work in Imperial Beach,” Heringer said. “I look forward to working with the city government in our collective efforts to ensure that those who live, work and visit Imperial Beach can do so in a safe and crime-free environment.”

Heringer is also employed, part-time, with the San Diego Community College District and the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, where he serves as an adjunct instructor for college courses within the Administration of Justice Department. He and his wife live in La Mesa and are members of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in San Carlos, where they serve as ushers and program coordinators for the Alpha program.
