A vandal on a crime spree that spread across different nights damaged more than 100 vehicles and shot a witness in the back with an air gun, according to Capt. Gary Wedge of the Chula Vista Police Department.

The incidents took place Sept. 26, 27 and 29 in locations on the west side of Chula Vista, and authorities are asking the public for help in identifying the person or persons responsible for shattering car windows and attacking a man.

According to Wedge, a man walking on East Prospect just after midnight Sept. 27 was shot in the back with a BB or pellet by someone authorities suspect is involved in the window-shooting incidents. The victim told police he saw an older model green GMC Safari or Chevrolet Astro van. Wedge says witnesses to the other crimes described seeing a similar vehicle leaving the scene.

The victim of the air gun shooting told 10News he's OK.

"I'm just really happy to be alive, that I was struck with a BB gun not an actual firearm," he said.

According to the 10News report, the windows of at least 111 vehicles were shot out.

Police have released a screen shot taken from surveillance video that shows a possible suspect vehicle driving in the area of one incident.

Anyone with information about these crimes is urged to contact the Chula Vista Police Department at 619-691-5151 or the CrimeStoppers anonymous tip line at 888-580-8477.
