Man Stabs Ex-Wife 5 Times, Sheriff's Dept. Says

Jose Nicholas Ascencio Gomez, 56, is described as 5 feet 7, 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has no known vehicle.

Sheriff's officials Sunday released the name of the man sought for allegedly stabbing his ex-wife five times during an apparent domestic violence dispute at her Imperial Beach home.

The 56-year-old woman told investigators she let Jose Nicholas Ascencio Gomez, 56, in to her home in the 600 block of 11th street near Calla Avenue around 3:45 p.m. Saturday to use the phone, sheriff's Sgt. Juan Marquez said.

Marquez said an argument ensued between the former spouses, in which Gomez allegedly grabbed a knife from the woman's kitchen and stabbed her five times in her chest. She was later taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries, which sheriff's officials did not consider life-threatening.

The suspect ran from the scene following the assault, and deputies were not immediately able to locate him, Marquez said.

Marquez said that an attempted murder arrest warrant would be sought for Gomez, and several items of evidentiary value were recovered from the scene.

Gomez was described as 5 feet 7, 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He has no known vehicle.
