Palm Avenue Checkpoint Nets One DUI Arrest

Drivers were stopped between 8 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.

Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in the 1000 block of Palm Avenue Friday night, resulting in one driver arrested for suspicion of DUI, according to Sgt. Ted Greenawald.

The checkpoint operated between 8 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. and contacted 1,148 of the 1,193 vehicles that went through. Thirty-eight vehicles were sent to a secondary inspection area, where 12 field sobriety tests were given, according to Greenawald.

In addition to the one DUI arrest, one person was arrested for suspicion of drug possession, five vehicles were towed and 20 citations were issued for various offenses.

Overtime pay for deputies staffing the checkpoint was paid for by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
