Newport Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Abuse of 20 Students

Police say Newport Beach resident Robert Pimental sexually abused 20 students and one adult while teaching in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA -- An elementary school teacher from Newport Beach was arrested Wednesday in Los Angeles on suspicion of sexually abusing 20 students.

Robert Pimental, a 57-year-old fourth grade teacher at George De La Torre Jr. Elementary School in Wilmington has been accused by 20 children and one adult of sexual abuse, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed eight counts of continuous sexual abuse and seven counts of lewd acts upon a child against Pimental. Pimental was being held at LAPD Metropolitan Detention Center on $12 million bail.

According to police, LAPD Juvenile Division’s Sexually Exploited Child Unit began their investigation into Pimental on March 15, 2012 when several girls told their parents that they had been inappropriately touched by Pimental at school.

Pimental was employed by the Los Angeles Unified School District since 1974 but left his teaching position when the investigation began. In a released statement, United Teachers Los Angeles -- the union representing the district's
teachers -- said Pimental is no longer a union member.

"The allegations described are horrific," the statement said. "As teachers we have a duty to uphold the trust our students and their parents place in us."

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Juvenile Detective Division at 213-486-0570. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or 800-222-8477.

How much more failure do we need from LAUSD to break it up and rebuild it.The only reason tyat the parents havent risen in arms over this travesty is that 50 percent of the parents are undocumented and do not wish to make waves...LAUSD takes advantage of this and as a result produces a 55 percent drop out rate and skills scores in the 40 percentile while being the 5th highest paid teachers in the country. The UTLA also sets up so many barriers to fire a teacheer..As a result we have LAUSD which is an utter failure..The needs of the children have to finally come before the f^&%%&& greed of the teachers and union and their F*&^*& bloated salary and pension needs. Shame on you greedy selfish pieces of s&&^....As ALL you in the LAUSD stand silent with over proetective union rules that permits parents to send these innocent children into this meat grinder system which protects these abusive teachers, may you all rot in hell....

Robert: Prayer is the answer? Which religion's? Do we go Incan and sacrifice virgins? Hebrew, and learn enough of the language to read the Torah in class? Islam, learn Arabic so we can read the Qaran? Or do you just mean YOUR religion?

Yes, this is quite sick. I can't help but notice, however, that once again, the straight offender gets page 41 and I can't remember what page the Jewish councilor had ... but when it involves a victim of the same sex, it hits the front page where bigots tend claim that all gay people are pedofiles. I KNOW ... this isn't the issue and I hope this guy gets everything coming to him and ALL children need to be protected from such parasites. I had a wonderfully innocent childhood and I can't understand how a person can rob a child of this. Hell, I can't understand how anyone can date a person of legal age yet so much younger than him/her. What can they possibly have in common with which to hold a conversation? Again, not the issue. I'm tired and shouldn't be writing.
