Molotov Cocktail Thrown at Agents at San Ysidro Port of Entry

A 39-year-old man suspected of hurling a Molotov cocktail at federal agents staffing San Ysidro Port of Entry–causing a sizable explosion but no injuries or property damage–was in federal custody in San Diego Friday.

Ricardo Martinez Diaz, a U.S. citizen, allegedly approached a vehicle- inspection booth at the government border facility about 1 p.m. Wednesday and threw the home-made firebomb, which landed several feet from the four officers, according to a court complaint.

The gasoline-filled bottle with a burning rag stuffed in it exploded in a "large fireball," Angelica De Cima of Customs and Border Protection said.
