ME: 13-Year-Old Boy Found Dead on Imperial Beach Shoreline Is Missing Swimmer

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed a body found near the mouth of the Tijuana River in Imperial Beach is that of a 13-year-old boy who was caught in a rip current in Tijuana July 15 and drowned.

A body that had apparently washed ashore just north of the U.S.- Mexico border was that of a 13-year-old Mexican boy who was swept out to sea last week, authorities said Saturday.

The boy and another male swimmer were caught in a rip current and pulled out to sea off Playas de Tijuana on July 15, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. Rescue efforts by lifeguards and authorities on both sides of the border were unsuccessful.

The boy's body was found by U.S. Department of Agriculture wildlife officers along the shoreline of Monument State Park Beach about a quarter-mile south of the mouth of the Tijuana River at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Medical Examiner's Office personnel said.
