Man Shot 3 Times in Legs on Cypress Avenue; Gang Unit Investigates

The shooting occurred after 6 p.m. Sunday near the Cypress Avenue and 11th Street intersection. A suspect remains at large.

A man walking near the intersection of 11th Street and Cypress Avenue was shot three times in the legs by unknown assailant, according to Sgt. Joel Stranger of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Still able to walk, the 38-year-old Hispanic male victim made his way to a home in the 1100 block of Cypress Avenue. Deputies received a call about the shooting around 6:22 p.m. and found the man on the front porch of the home where he went to seek help.

First aid was administered by deputies until paramedics and Imperial Beach Fire Department were able to respond. The man was transported to UCSD Medical Center.

The sheriff's Imperial Beach substation and East County Gang Task Force detectives are investigating the incident, Stranger said.

A general description of the assailant and how the assailant fled the scene is not yet known, he said.
