Jeffrey Apple, 47, of Imperial Beach was sentenced to five years and four months in prison Thursday afternoon at the South County Courthouse in Chula Vista.
"The defendant is ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life,” said Judge Kathleen Lewis.
Apple also was ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution, given credit for 158 days served and ordered not to contact the victim, who remains anonymous.
On July 5, Apple pleaded guilty to three charges related to sex with a person under 16 years of age.
One charge was related to having a minor pose for lewd pictures or videos.
According to sources in the Sweetwater Union High School District, Apple when he was arrested in April. He was also a coach for years with Imperial Beach Girls Softball and grew up in IB.
Apple's family was present at the sentencing.
“He is my son. I can’t turn my back on him,” Apple’s father said.
Deputy District Attorney Karra Reedy, who prosecuted the case, wasn’t immediately available for comment.
