Suicide Shuts Down Northbound Lanes of I-5 at Coronado Ave.

A woman jumped to her death from the Coronado Avenue overpass Thursday afternoon, bringing traffic on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 to a halt while authorities responded to the scene, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Catano.

Authorities say the incident happened about 1:50 p.m. Thursday. The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Catano said witnesses called the CHP to say a woman who had been standing on the overpass had jumped.

It is possible, but not confirmed, that the woman is tied to a domestic violence incident earlier in the day, Catano said.

Freeway lanes were being re-opened to traffic by 3:45 p.m.
