IB Man Arrested for Alleged Broad Daylight Burglary

The 22-year-old was arrested for burglary after an observant citizen called police to report suspicious activity. At the same time, a resident in the area called to report her home had just been burglarized.

Two men are in jail Wednesday on suspicion of burglarizing a La Mesa home in broad daylight, thanks to someone who reported the pair as they walked around the area, police said.

Jose Mercado-Gonzales of Imperial Beach and Jeffrey Thomas of El Cajon, both 22, were arrested about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and booked on suspicion of burglarizing a home in the 4400 block of Carlin Place, La Mesa police said.

About a half-hour earlier, someone called police to report two men walking around looking at homes after parking in the 4400 block of Upland Street, police said.

The vehicle was gone when police showed up, but a patrolman spotted it in the area and stopped it, police said.

About the same time, a Carlin Place resident called 911 to report that two men had just burglarized her home about two blocks away, police said.
