Hotline to Catch Drug Traffickers: Feds Set Up Phone Line, Email for Tips

Authorities will have lines set up stateside and south of the border to increase their ability to catch drug traffickers.

Federal officials have announced the creation of a telephone hotline and email address through which tipsters can help combat drug-trafficking organizations operating in the Southland and Baja California.

Through the program, operated by the San Diego Major Traffickers Task Force, confidential informants can make themselves eligible for monetary rewards should their input lead to significant arrests or contraband seizures, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

The toll-free telephone is (855) 780-1908 in the U.S. and 011-855-780-1908 in Mexico or outside the United States.

Though authorities have dismantled one of the largest and most ruthless Mexican drug gangs of recent years, the Arellano Felix Cartel, the region continues to be threatened by other bold and highly violent criminal organizations operating out of Tijuana and Sinaloa, according to law enforcement officials.
