Have You Seen This Man? He Attempted to Persuade Teen Girl Into His Vehicle

A composite sketch of a man who tried to get a teenage girl into his van in Otay Mesa was made public Friday in the hope someone would recognize him.

The man approached the girl on her way to school and asked her repeatedly to get into his vehicle in the 1700 block of Caliente Avenue about 8:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to San Diego police Lt. Kevin Mayer.

The girl, 17, told officers that the man drove up to her a light blue van and began asking her questions, then tried to persuade her to get in the vehicle, Mayer said in a statement. He eventually drove off westbound on Airway Road, then south on Otay Mesa Road, the lieutenant said.

Police were looking for a Hispanic man in his 30s with a heavy build, short black hair and a thick mustache. He wore a camouflage hat and a cream- colored jacket, Mayer said.

His vehicle was a light blue 1990s van, similar to a Chevrolet Astro. It had a roof rack and rust on the passenger side, and possibly has a Baja California license plate, according to Mayer.
