Dumpster Fire Near Public Works, Bayside Elementary School

A fire was started in a large dumpster near Emory Elementary School this evening sending black smoke and flames into the sky.

A fire was started in dumpsters near the city of yard Wednesday evening around 8 p.m., according to a Imperial Beach Fire Department official.

The dumpsters were full of carpet and tree branches and "it gave off some pretty good flames but it was confined to the dimpster," said Captain Mark Cisneros.

Children were playing at Bayside Park at the time of the fire, he said, and on the nearby Bayshore Bikeway.

Since the Imperial Beach Fire Department was responding to another call at the time, the Coronado Fire Department was first on the scene but the IBFD came later to assist.

No suspects are currently being sought in connection to the incident, Cisneros said.
