DUI Checkpoint Stops Drivers on Palm Ave. Saturday Night

Two drunk-in-public arrests were made during the six-hour operation that screened more than 850 drivers. No DUI arrests were made.

A DUI/driver’s license checkpoint on Palm Avenue Saturday night resulted in no arrests for suspicion of drunken driving, but two people were taken into custody for being drunk in public, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The checkpoint operated from 8:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Palm Avenue, staffed by 14 DUI-trained deputies, according to Sgt. Laura Spang. Of the 891 vehicles that rolled through the checkpoint, 862 were contacted by a deputy checking driver’s licenses and searching for signs of impairment.

Deputies directed 27 vehicles to a secondary-inspection area, where three drivers were cited for driving without a license, three for driving on a suspended license, and one for not having a license in possession, according to Spang.
