Cinco de Mayo Beating Puts IB Man in Hospital

The 28-year-old was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken jaw and other injuries after being attacked from behind, the sheriff's department said.

A 28-year-old man was assaulted in the area of 12th Street and Donax Avenue around 1 a.m. May 5, the sheriff's department said.

The victim said he was "assaulted from behind and he was kicked in the head and face where he lost consciousness," said Sgt. Fran Passalacqua with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Once he regained consciousness, he made his way home where a family member brought him to the hospital.

There it was fonud he had a broken jaw, dislocated teeth and other injuries to the mouth and face.

The crime was reported later that day around 9 p.m.

No motive has been identified and no arrests have been made, Passalacqua said.
