Carjacking Prompts Authorities to Close Border Crossing

A report of a carjacking near the main U.S.-Mexico border crossing today prompted authorities to close the nearby Otay Mesa crossing to passenger vehicles.

The carjacking was reported at 9:12 a.m. in central San Ysidro, in the 4500 block of Border Village Drive, near East San Ysidro Boulevard, according to San Diego police.

The vehicle was apparently driven five miles east to the Otay Mesa gate, which was then closed to vehicles, but the truck scales remained open, according to Caltrans.
