Decomposed Male Body Found in Border Field State Park

The discovery comes 10 days after Mexican and American authorities searched for two missing teens offshore.

Sheriff's deputies responded Thursday morning after the decomposed body of a male was discovered in Border Field State Park in Imperial Beach, officials said.

The call came in at 8:45 a.m., sheriff's Lt. Kevin Menzies told U-T San Diego. It was not possible to establish the age or race of the individual because of the state of the remains, authorities said, and the Medical Examiner's Office was called in to investigate.

Fox5SanDiego.com reported that a bystander found the body.

10 days ago, authorities gave up a search on both sides of the border for two missing teens who were lost swimming offshore.

California State Parks and Imperial Beach lifeguards aided in the July 15 search and were on the lookout for a boy, 13, and a girl, 16.

"Sometimes they float on over to our side of the border. With the swell and the currents, the ones that we had yesterday were definitely strong enough that the current could have brought them north to the United States," IB Lifeguard Capt. Robert Stabenow told IB Patch a day after the search ended on the American side of the border.
