Attempted Murder, Carjacking Suspect Held Without Bail After Not Guilty Plea

Treviyon Deshawn Rew appeared in court Thursday following an incident last July in which he allegedly tried to shoot two people. He is also accused of another shooting and carjacking which occurred two days prior in National City.

Treviyon Deshawn Rew, 18, accused of carjacking, two counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, pleaded not guilty to all charges in the South County courthouse in Chula Vista on Thursday.

Rew allegedly tried to shoot two people during an attempted carjacking on July 24, 2010,  in Imperial Beach.

Deputy District Attorney David Grapilon said the case was previously unsolved but ballistics tests matched a bullet lodged in the shoe of one of the victims to a gun that Rew was carrying when he was arrested last year.

He was out on bail for allegedly shooting a man during another attempted carjacking in National City two days prior when officers arrested him at his grandfather's house Wednesday.

In the National City case, Rew and an unidentified man allegedly ambushed 26-year-old Sean Simpson as he returned to his gated apartment complex around 1 a.m.

Simpson was shot three times in the back and left for dead but survived his critical injuries, Grapilon said.

Rew faces life in prison if convicted in that case, he said.
