7-Eleven Robbed at Gunpoint; Suspects Plead Not Guilty

Two men accused of robbing a 7-Eleven on Palm Avenue were back in court.

Two men accused of robbing a 7-Eleven on Palm Avenue were back in court Monday.

Mario Gonzalez, 37, and another man were accused of attempted robbery and making a criminal threat, according to Tanya Sierra, spokeswoman for the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.

Gonzalez allegedly robbed a 7-Eleven in the 600 block of Palm Avenue at gunpoint May 30 shortly after midnight.

Both pleaded not guilty during a June 3 arraignment. A judge will determine whether enough evidence exists for the two men to stand trial at a June 19 preliminary hearing, Sierra said.

Deputies were checking out a suspicious van parked in an alley near the convenience store when they got a call that a robbery took place, said Sgt. William Uelan.

"They picked the wrong 7-Eleven," Uelan said. "The deputies are always over at that Palm Avenue one."

Deputies found Gonzalez' wallet in the van, Uelan said. Both men appeared to fit the description of suspects caught on camera at the store and were carrying automatic handguns, he said.

Gonzalez was arrested in the alley.
