3 People Arrested at Imperial Beach Checkpoint

About 1,070 vehicles passed through the checkpoint at Palm Avenue and Ninth Street.

Three people were arrested for allegedly being drunk in public at a checkpoint in Imperial Beach that wrapped up Sunday, sheriff's officials said.

About 1,070 vehicles passed through the checkpoint at Palm Avenue and Ninth Street between 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 a.m., according to sheriff's Sgt. Ted Greenawald.

Deputies cited seven drivers without a license in their possession, six unlicensed drivers and two with a suspended license, Greenawald said.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
