19 Suspects Arrested During Warrant Sweep

The Sheriff’s Department searched for wanted suspects Saturday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies fanned out across Imperial Beach and other communities in southern San Diego County Saturday morning on a warrant sweep, looking for suspects with outstanding misdemeanor and felony theft, alcohol and drug-related warrants.

The sheriff’s Court Services Bureau-Field Division arrested one adult on a felony warrant and 18 adults on misdemeanor warrants, according to Sgt. Richard George.

Other areas that were included in the warrant sweep were Chula Vista, National City, Otay, Nestor and San Ysidro.

The detail was funded by an AVOID grant and a trust fund of assessment fees collected from people who have violated a written promise to appear in court or otherwise fail to comply with a court order, according to the department. AVOID grants fund anti-DUI efforts by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"...was funded by an AVOID gr/ant and a trust fund of assessment fees collected...' the avoid grant was funded on 09/03/12 by taking money out of the general fund ....this is why we have high taxes...

Libi why do you complain about everything? Did you not read the article? These were fees that are collected from people when they get arrested for failing to appear in court.

i'm not complaining, i'm stating the fact...it's reality...this is why we have high taxes... yes, i did read the article...i even quoted the article .... 'the fees that are collected from people when they get arrested'....already had a use - they were to go back into the general fund to pay for the arrest and court costs...the original reason the fees were attached... they 'earmarked' the fees for another use - now the general fund is short... if you want tax dollars spent on this type of activity then call your elected representatives and tell the to raise your taxes to cover the costs....not hid the expense is words like 'grant' and 'transferred' because that just means that they took it out of our other pockets or ran up debt ....

Makes me wonder how many hours of incredibly expensive overtime were added to already bloated public sector paychecks to serve 18 misdemeanor warrants. Boy do I feel safer now.
