1 Dead, 1 Missing, 3 Arrested After Attempting to Swim From Mexico

Border Patrol agents first arrested three suspects around 6:20 a.m. Saturday.

Five people unlawfully entered the United States on Saturday morning using wetsuits and self-propelled submersible devices to swim below the surface and land in Imperial Beach, Border Patrol officials said.

Of the five, one was found dead near Descanso Avenue and Seacoast Drive while three were arrested at Admiralty Way and Seacoast Drive at 6:20 a.m.

The missing person who swam from Mexico is thought to have swum back across the border or drowned as well.

A U.S. Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter has searched for the missing swimmer since the three arrested men were contacted. The names of those arrested were not released.
