Issue: Is Obama Now Serious on Tackling Climate Change?

Greenhouse gas emissions from power plants are targeted as well as promoting renewable energy development on public lands.

Saying “we need to act,” President Obama on Tuesday put meat on the bones of his State of the Union promise to tackle climate change. He told an audience at Georgetown University: “I refuse to condemn your generation and future generations to a planet that’s beyond fixing. We will be judged as a people, and as a society, and as a country on where we go from here.”

How we’ll get there, he said, includes limiting greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, promoting renewable energy development on public lands, boosting increased energy efficiency standards for appliances and cutting energy waste.

Opposition in Congress is assured, but will the president push hard where he hasn’t before?  Or is a New Obama energized to tackle the issue? Share your thoughts in the comments.
