The San Diego Foundation Releases 2015 Creative Catalyst Fund: Individual Artist Fellowship Program Application and Guidelines

The San Diego Foundation (The Foundation) has released the application and guidelines for the 2015 Creative Catalyst Fund: Individual Artist Fellowship Program (CCF Fellowship Program), a grant that provides opportunities for local professional artists to create new work that advances their careers and encourages civic engagement and social change in San Diego neighborhoods. Through partnerships with pre-selected nonprofit arts and culture organizations, The Foundation will fund fellowships ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 for up to 10 local professional artists.

San Diego-based professional artists working in the disciplines of visual, performing, literary and media arts and at all stages of their careers are eligible to apply. Artists must be at least 18 years old and not currently enrolled or plan to enroll in a degree program during the Fellowship. Awards will be used to develop new work with fellowships beginning January 1, 2015 and ending by December 31, 2015.

To be invited to apply to the CCF Fellows Program, artists must first complete an application in which they will provide professional qualifications, a project concept and specify up to three nonprofit arts and culture organizations they would most like to sponsor their project. Artists selected by the nonprofit organization through this competitive process may then be invited to apply for the Fellowship. The application may be accessed at http://www.sdfoundation.org/Grants/GrantOpportunities.aspx.

The deadline for submitting the application is Friday, May 23, 2014 at 5:00 pm.

The CCF Fellows Program is a cornerstone program of The Foundation – Malin Burnham Center for Civic Engagement. A long range goal for the program is to establish San Diego as a place where creativity and all makers of art can thrive and to demonstrate the many ways that the arts bring meaning and value to the lives of San Diego residents.

“The CCF Fellows Program is grounded in the belief that direct support to local artists not only promotes their careers, but has a positive and demonstrable impact on the vitality and vibrancy of neighborhoods and the well-being of its residents. From improving civic dialogue, to integrating the creative arts into our schools, the contributions of artists can be evidenced in a multitude of ways that make our communities stronger. “Investing in artists invests in people who empower our communities, economies and cultures,” said BongHwan “BH” Kim, executive director of the Center for Civic Engagement.

Interested artists are encouraged to attend an informational workshop on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 5:00 – 6:30 pm at The Foundation, 2508 Historic Decatur Road, in Point Loma where they can learn more about the program. Artists who received funding from the 2012 and 2013 CCP Fellows Program may attend and share perspectives on their experiences as Fellows. Some of the 2015 Nonprofit Sponsors may also be present. To RSVP for the gathering, contact Ruth Ambriz at ruth@sdfoundation.org. Space is limited. RSVPs are required.
