I have been living in IB for just over a month and have loved my distance to the ocean and all the Pier has to offer. BUT, I find myself very discouraged by my neighbors and surrounding community members who do not pick up after themselves or their children. I am concerned because the biggest issue I see are parents smoking in or around my complex who also leave their disgusting cigarette buds EVERYWHERE. With our current knowledge, I believe it is fair to say that everyone knows that second hand smoke effects everyone around you. I am not sure if this is a culturally receptive trait that comes with beach life or just insensitivity to what cigarette smoking can do. This has been quite a nuisance and very upsetting to see my neighbors blow smoke in their children's faces (ages 2-14) and then litter our complex with buds. When my fiancé and I take our evening walks we also notice this very same issues on the pier along with people smoking marijuana. I am very liberal in thought, BUT my concern is the health of others especially the children in our community. I find myself doubting my move due to these constant finding of cigarette buds and trash aligning my street. When will we become respectful enough to care for our beautiful surrounding and protect our neighborhood? And to even begin talking about the often mentioned "dog-poop" issues is another concern. It comes down to basics-Clean up after yourself and your children and respect where you live!!!
