Poll: Should Kids of Undocumented Aliens Be Spared Deportation?

Dream Act died in the Senate, but new Obama administration policy embraces goals of measure.

Immigration exploded as a campaign issue Friday when President Obama announced a new policy on undocumented immigrants under 30: They won’t be deported if they have Dream Act qualities. Obama called it a “temporary, stopgap” action. Supporters cheered the policy as sensible and humane. Opponents jeered it as an “end run” around Congress.  Is this move a relief for innocent children or a signal that illegality is condoned?

So we hold it against Syria because they do not share a border with us. Would the President be doing the right thing if he saved Syrian infants and little kids?
And Mary, please don't call them collateral damage anymore. Please.

Fist of all this is a BS poll.
The poll should have been instead - do we really need a million more workers? Kids were not actively being deported anyway - Obama's intentions were not altruistic - but rather completely politically motivated. What is significant about the age group he selected? Why didn't he make all undocumented aliens - of good moral character - legal residents? The biggest threat of Obama's unilateral pronouncement is that only congress has the authority to enact naturalization laws. Per the U.S. Constitution - Article 1 Section 8: "The Congress shall have Power ...To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization" The constitution does not even hint that the President has any authority over immigration. It does however state: The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. My burning question is: Why hasn't he been impeached yet?

you're evading the central question.. are you asking for american military interrvention in syria?..american troops on the ground? doug

Mr. Keltner -
Specifically what treasonous act, bribe or high crime or misdemeanor did our present President or Vice President commit? You must be dreaming because I'm sure the Obama haters would have impeached him already if they had anything at all. Komfort - WHAT WILL YOU DO if President Obama is re-elected?
Komfort June 20, 2012 at 12:50 am
I will watch him blame Bush until 2016.

Solving Mexico's problems by accepting their citizens is not acting like World Police?
Mary, I don't think you understand what you are saying.

Tonto -
How high and how deep are you going to build this fence? Maybe a bubble over the entire U.S. is the answer. Reality needs to enter into this equation at some point. Bumper Sticker Slogans haven't been the answer so far.

Komfort - I do understand what I am saying, but you might do well to remember the part of Emma Lazarus’ sonnet The New Colossus that is engraved and placed on our National Symbol, the Statue of Liberty:
"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" Those are not the words of the World Police, but rather the words of a welcoming nation to all peoples looking for freedom.
Komfort June 20, 2012 at 01:50 am
Emma would be proud of how we treat Syrians.
Komfort June 20, 2012 at 01:55 am
Mary, I do give you props for doing better than Obama. I know it is not a high hurdle, but you cleared it.

somehow, i don't think assad's gonna call "time out" while we go in and get them.. you donrt think we can accomplish the same by backing the arab countries around who'd like to see assad overthrown?.. there's a bunch of them.. doug

Really Komfort? The United Nation’s Observers have already been ordered to stand down because of the violence. The U.N. is unable to agree on what action to take, so you want President Obama to issue an Executive Order for our military troops to go into another sovereign country, round-up all children in
that country, then feed, clothe, and provide shelter, medical and transportation to where, for how many millions? Sounds like a well thought out plan to me. Who do you think is going to pay for this humanitarian evacuation?
Things I Learned June 20, 2012 at 02:03 am
America should be the world's milch cow because someone who pushed for restricted immigration to Palestine and set America on a path to becoming the world's policeman wrote a poem
"And in the third essay, "The Jewish Problem" (February 1883), [Emma Lazarus] observed that Jews, who are always in the minority, "seem fated to excite the antagonism of their fellow countrymen." To this problem she offered a solution: the founding of a state by Jews for Jews in Palestine. Lazarus promoted Zionism throughout the 1880s." http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/biography/lazarus.html

Komfort June 20, 2012 at 02:13 am
We could dig into our illegal aliens emergency room fund to pay for it.
I would suggest we set refuge ships close to the Syrian shores and allow the Syrians that wish to make a difference for their children swim out to them.
Komfort June 20, 2012 at 02:17 am
It is much more humanitarian to pressure Arabs into attacking Arabs. And as an added bonus we can tell ourselves that this type of action is not the same as World Policing.

I saw that article. Very sad. It said that all the detainees were being held in prison. I am wondering which prison? I believe that these type of detentions are typically placed in private prisons? If that's the case, then are these detentions politically motivated or financially?

This is a delaying tactic. They are going to try to appease enough of the groups to break up theRead More coalition. The IBCC has given away millions to some of the richest men in San Diego County. Thank you for posting this. Great job to all who were involved with the Alternative Solution to IBRead More Sports Park Privatization Planning Committee. While the above referenced "delaying tactic" is likely true, it will be up to the community's grassroots activism to force the council to a public decision on the issue. Their "delaying tactic" comes with a price in 2014 - when two council seats and the mayors seat is up for grabs. Who's interested?

Mayor Janney seems anguished at finding a process he can still control ? Probably so he can finishRead More the deal and deliver the goods; per the previous DONE DEAL. He acts like; No matter what process they do, the only decision will be YMCA. 16:08 Janney: "We can appoint our plants on the committee?" Gary Brown: "Oh Yea!" Maybe the YMCA is going to pass the properties through to another entity that will buy them out when they file for planned future bankruptcy? Hey ...If the YMCA is running the Municipal Pools in Chula Vista and National City now...maybe they'd like to build a pool for Imperial Beach with their own money; since all the Imperial Beach RDA money went for "OTHER PROJECTS"? Is this a classic struggle over who controls the children in the community?
