Poll: Do You Believe the World Will End in 2012?

Some believe the end of the Mayan calendar marks the end of the world as we know it in one form or another. Will it be an end to mankind, a revelation or a bust?

The drumbeat has been loud and constant. Predictions of the end of the world have come often but Dec. 21, 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar, is supposed to be the real deal.

A fixation on apocalypse and doom has been seen for years in TV shows, movies and video games.

There are wars and talk of war, economic instability, climate change and a host of other problems.

Pick your poison to justify talk of apocalypse.

Plenty of people seem to believe.

According to a Harris poll published last year, near 25 percent of Republican voters believed President Obama to be the antichrist.

My favorite comment ab 2012 comes in a cartoon from Dan Piraro (12/21/09) which can be found online. The Mayan ruler is looking at the Mayan man who has carved the elaborate Calendar. The carver says: "I only had enough room to go up to 2012." The Ruler replies: "Ha! That'll really freak somebody out someday!"

Anyone who believes in this nonsense, feel free to send me all your money. Under the table and unreported of course, so I don't have to pay tax.

End of the world? Give me a break. I grew up in Canada, around some Jehovah's Witness relatives who have been predicting — indeed hoping for — Armageddon ever since I can remember (many decades). Have some faith, people.
