Imperial Beach Is Blessed With One Free Press

This community owes a debt of gratitude to Khari for his long hours and dedication to providing an objective news bureau in Imperial Beach. If he does not get the Pulitzer Prize for reporting, it won't be for lack of effort. If AOL/ Huffington Post does fold up the Patch, this community should figure out a way to keep Khari on retainer and maintain a free and open press for community information and dialogue that isn't dominated by the politically powerful.

I applaud that idea! Count me in for support.

I also agree, and would be more then happy to send my advertising $$ to Khari directly - instead of AOL! I'll even help add more advertisers to support a free press in Imperial Beach.

Khari does a wonderful job!

Ed. This is a doctored up photo and probably not appropriate. It seems misleading. I was at the pier today wearing my yellow shirt and yellow Charger hat and no one was out there to show support for the PATCH...except Erika Lowery with her son Xavier, who showed up wearing her green PATCH logo shirt. Reporting facts usually makes for good journalism. Sensationalism usually falls into the National Enquirer category. Let's keep it factual and the PATCH will continue to thrive and get better and better.

You could call it wishful thinking or artistic license perhaps? At least I'm in the spirit. Yes it's a photo from a long ago Sandcastle event that had been used on the old SaveiB.com website as a protest for making it illegal to feed the birds and a $100 fine. I'm sure someone who voted for that ordinance to fine tourist feeding birds saw it and recognized it. I kept waiting for someone to post a real photo. Just for future reference....Khari is the objective Editor and news person. I am quite clear about being Anti-encumbent and anti appointed government. I admit to being cynical and a disbeliever of most of their official spin based on conditioning from years of observation. I'm all for being an optimist...but even Jesus said not to cast your pearls before swine. Getting elected does not make anyone honorable. Transparent honest and moral behavior make one honorable. Saying the best is yet to come is pretty easy because pretty much everything these people have tried to do so far has screwed up and continue to cost the taxpayers "JILLIONS"... Wait till your % of the Bond Debt is added to your property taxes without a vote or referendum on raising your taxes. Wait till they Lien your house for their wasteful spending. Please be optimistic....but don't be a fool either?

The BEST is before us...not the Best is yet to come. Being an Optimist means working with what we already have and creating a future we truly want. Being optimistic about our future is also important. The future I want for my children is for them to be raised in Imperial Beach and be actively involved with their community. I am very optimistic about IB...I would be a fool not to believe in the BEST that IB has to offer and not to invest in a family home that will encourage, inspire and motivate our children for the future. IB has many flaws just like many other small towns, that is obvious, but the pros easily outweigh the cons. We are part of a diverse and unique community. I am proud and honored to be a part of it.

I actually love Imperial Beach as well. I am a little pessimistic however by the elected and appointed officials and the way they conduct what is supposed to be a democracy. I'm optimistic that the new City Manager will figure out a way to put future agendas in the adjudicated newspapers the weekend prior to future council meetings. I'm optimistic that the new city manager will be willing to place an item on agenda to make the streaming video available to local web providers and ending the monopoly to Cox Cable. I'm optimistic that Council may discontinue the Consent Agendas and openly and publicly read all expenditures into the record at each council meeting so that the public is better aware of how much money is being spent and for what. I'm optimistic that due process will resume in the future for the benefit of the community at large.
