Former Resident, Mayor and Port Commisisioner Mike Bixler was outspoken in his support for REGIONAL GOVERNMENT BY APPOINTED- NOT ELECTED OFFICIALS.
He was instrumental in starting SANDAG and forging agreements between Imperial Beach and the Port of San Diego. The Bixlers recently moved away from South Seacoast Drive to Point Loma. Bixler also was instrumental in handling the bonds for the ballpark downtown that was in financial trouble through his Merril Lynch Special Investors Group. That was before the Crash...who knows what happened to the Ballpark Bonds...or Imperial Beach's RDA Bonds for that matter?
Anyway.....let it be known who really opened the barn door and led the Trojan Horse full of developers and corruption into Imperial Beach. Mike said they should make a statue of him, so I did many cartoons of Mike Bixler depicted as famous statues. I will be posting more of that in the future on the SaveIB Blog here at the Patch. A lot of people never saw the old website in years past and some of the art work is still kind of interesting...or might make one pause to think anyway. If the Little League wants to auction off the original cartoon cells for a fund-raiser , there's probably more than one politician that would come down to bid on the originals?
