César Chávez Day - Holiday or not?

Were you off for the César Chávez holiday?

Officially, César Chávez Day is observed in the United States on March 31 each year. It celebrates the birthday of César Estrada Chávez and it serves as a tribute to the man's commitment to social justice and respect for human dignity.

However, it's not a very well observed holiday and best I could tell only the courts, DMV and most libraries were closed - in his honor.

The efforts by Cesar E. Chavez National Holiday organization to make the day a national holiday - so far - do not seem to be catching on.

Were you off for the... holiday?

Did you even know it was a holiday?
