Recognizing the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have died since combat operations began in 2001.
A decade after 9/11, thousands have paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of the United States and in fighting the war on terror.
In total, according to the Department of Defense, as of 10 a.m. Sept. 9, 4,408 military personnel were killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, 1,748 in Operation Enduring Freedom and 57 in Operation New Dawn. Nearly 46,000 has been wounded in action.
On June 29, 2008, Sgt. James M. Treber of Imperial Beach was killed in Afghanistan when a vehicle he was in rolled over and into a canal. He was 24-years-old. Two other soldiers also died in the accident.
