GOP Voters Rank 3rd in Imperial Beach Behind DEM's and Unstated

Of 10,377 registered Imperial Beach voters, 3857 are affiliated with the Democratic Party, 2980 declined to state, and 2855 are GOP.

In contrast to the Patch article; "", Imperial Beach GOP voters total only 27.5%, while Democrats exceed 37% and voters who declined to state a party make up 28.7% of the city's electorate.

Similar to San Diego city Democrats, Dems in IB have a firm statistical advantage over the GOP. Likewise, a large and decisive percentage of the city's voters have declined to state a party.

American Independent Party voters take fourth place in the city with 3.8%, the Green Party and Libertarians are .8% and .7% of voters respectively.

The numbers are clear and the percentages don't lie. In order to win more than 50% of the Imperial Beach vote, a candidate or proposition must sway voters who've declined to state their party.

Who are the decline to state voters?

Over the past 12 years, successful candidates in Imperial Beach received less than 2700 votes to win a council or mayor's race.  Historically, over 25% of total ballots cast don't bother to vote for a councilmember or mayor!

In 2010 for example, even though all three Imperial Beach races were on the same ballot, only 5098 votes were cast in the mayors race, while 7129 were cast in the 'full term' council race and only 4900 were cast for the 'short term' council seat.

In 1992, Prop. P, the one and only proposition specific to the city of Imperial Beach, passed with 4,801 votes, yielding 71.8% of voters.
