Memorial Fund Established for 1-Year-Old Killed by City Truck in Logan Heights

Santiago Montes' father was installing furniture at Pier South Hotel in Imperial Beach when his son was hit by a city of San Diego water truck and killed Thursday.

Donations are being accepted by the family of Santiago Montes, a 1-year-old who was struck by a city of San Diego utility truck in Logan Heights Thursday.

Santiago's father Jorge Montes works at Tony's Hotel Liquidators and was installing furniture at Pier South Hotel in Imperial Beach at the time his son was killed, according to Tony's procurement agent Vanessa Olvera.

The Santiago Israel Memorial Fund has been established to accept donations at Wells Fargo Bank to pay for a customized, small casket, Olvera said. The fund account number is 3634945707.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the 15-month-old toddler as Santiago Montes Friday.

Around 3 p.m. Thursday Montes was with his grandmother at her job when he ran between two parked cars and into the street in the 3100 block of National Avenue in San Diego and into the path of the truck, police told Fox5sandiego.com

He was brought to Rady Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 3:30 p.m.
