What Happened To The Community Garden Project? 10th and Donax Plans Dashed

IB Community Garden Committee is still looking for land.

Hopes and dreams of growing our own healthy food have been dashed, for now at least. Due to state mandates requiring low income housing initial plans to start a garden in an empty lot on 10th Street and Donax Avenue have been dashed, however, I'm not daunted in the search for land.

A suitable size lot for all those who've showed interest is not available here in Imperial Beach. In our nieghboring area of South San Diego, there are spaces which could serve more people in their desire to grow good food. Thankfully, they are also closer to 'Wild Willow Farm' which was recently designated as a 'Regional Gardening Educational Center'. You really need to check out their website, attend a potluck and help the farm grow.

It's such a great valuable local resource, who will soon offer free classes on organic gardening!

Meanwhile, check back for my gardening tips or ask me questions on plant or yard problems. You can find me under Blog Central here on Imperial Beach Patch.

In my next blog post, I'll talk about container growing, safe insect controll, controlling powdery mildew and help point people who want to garden toward resources for answers when I don't know how to help you.
