TOP TEN FILMS THIS WEEK

TOP TEN LIST

JERI JACQUIN, MOVIE MAVEN

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY – (G) From Disney Pixar the guys are back! Sully and Mike take audiences back to when they first met in college. Same antics and same fun but not as good as the first. It’s a fun way to start the summer with the kids though. Three tubs of popcorn out of five.

WORLD WAR Z – (PG-13) Zombie lovers are flocking in droves to get their undead fix with Brad Pitt starring as a man determined to discover the beginnings of a virus turning the living into the dead. Action, suspense and a few lulls but nothing zombie enthusiasts will mind in the slightest! I may be a tad partial but I had fun with this film. Three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five.

MAN OF STEEL - (PG-13) From the planet of Krypton is another telling of the Superman tale at the helm of Zack Snyder of “300” fame. With Henry Cavill as Clark Kent he’s got two dads (both former Robin Hoods) with Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe who both want him to stay clear of General Zod (Michael Shannon). Action filled and number one – until the zombies arrive! Four tubs of popcorn out of five.

THIS IS THE END – (R) I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time and all at stuff that is childish and gross glossed with the plot of the apocalypse among Hollywood’s young actors. Yet when you bring Seth Rogan, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Jonah Hill and Jay Baruchel together with cameo appearances by Emma Watson, Rhianna, Kevin Heart, Jason Segel and the outrageous Michael Cera it becomes clear why laughter will ensue. Well done guys! Four tubs of popcorn out of five.

NOW YOU SEE ME - (PG-13) The FBI and Interpol are out to catch some thieves – except the thieves are quick, talented and, well, magical! Three tubs of popcorn out of five.

FAST & FURIOUS 6 – (PG-13) The next installment of cars, action and Vin Diesel along with Dwayne Johnson and Paul Walker. It’s sweeping the box office so it doesn’t matter what I think of the film! Three tubs of popcorn out of five.

THE INTERNSHIP – (PG-13) Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson get a second career in life with Google! These two partners in comedy have to find a way to compete with the younger and hipper crowd. Three tubs of popcorn out of five.

THE PURGE – (R) A family battens down the hatches of their house for the one night a year when the city purges and the criminals run free. This film has caught the imagination of audiences for a good reason! Three tubs of popcorn out of five.

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS – (PG-13) The crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise is back! Captain Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy, Sulu, Uhura, Scottie and Chekov are once again saving the planet but this time not every body is who they seem. The mystery unravels but not before the crew are stunned by what they learn. Three tubs of popcorn out of five.

IRON MAN 3 – (PG-13) Robert Downey, Jr. is back as Tony Stark aka Iron Man. This time he faces the ruthless Mandarin and with the help of Pepper Potts and Col. Rhodes fans are lining up with excitement. Three tubs of popcorn out of five.
