THE PURGE: Anarchy

Coming this Friday to theatres from director/writer James DeMonaco and Universal Pictures comes the next night of THE PURGE: Anarchy.

It is that time of year again as the Government and its citizens ready themselves for the annual purge. As the people get ready Liz (Kiele Sanchez) and Shane (Zach Gilford) begin to make their way home. Carmen (Eva Sanchez) and daughter Cali (Zoe Soul) are home barricading doors and windows watching the public outcry of Carmelo wanting everyone to fight the purge.

Then there is the loner Sergeant (Frank Grillo) who ready’s himself with one goal in mind and one destination – as long as he stays focused. As the signal sounds the clock begins to wind down the 12 hours until the purge is complete.

Liz and Shane are running for dear life as their car has been tampered to stall and are followed by a truck load of purgers. Carmen and Cali’s home is broken into by a crazed security guard who just wants to feel purged but is interrupted by a group who taken the women.

Sergeant comes down the street and sees the women being taken, as much as he might want to walk away he helps them. Running back to his car they discover Liz and Shane as well. Now the five of them are on the run together and there is more to the purge than anyone realizes.

The clock is winding down – but who will make it till dawn?

FINAL WORD: Grillo as Sergeant is the winner of the film. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to say ‘shut the hell up’ to the jabbering four people this man had on his back! Seriously, how stupid do you have to be? Thank you Grillo for saving me from totally losing my sh*t while watching this film. This is a man who had every moment of seriousness on his face with no time for garbage – unlike his companions.

Sanchez – unbelievable, and you’ll side with me after seeing the film, trust that! Soul as Cali needed to shut her mouth even before meeting Sergeant, and that’s from an ole lady who hates smart ass teens who think they know everything when they don’t know sh*t.

Sanchez as Liz actually had moments of pretty strong badassness to her character until she spoke, then I’m completely over it. Gilford as Shane just doesn’t do it for me and seriously it would have been nice for Sergeant to some help.

Other cast includes: Justina Machado as Tanya, John Beasley as Papa Rico, Jack Conley as Big Daddy, Noel Gugliemi as Diego, Castulo Guerra as Barney, Michael K. Williams as Carmelo, Roberta Valderrama as Lorraine and Niko Nicotera as Roddy.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give THE PURGE: Anarchy three tubs of popcorn out of five. I give it three because the storyline is still followed through but gawd help me the acting (with the exception of Grillo, is absolutely unbelievable. That’s how I feel and I’m sticking to it!

Between the talking, the smart mouth teen, the stupid, STUPID falling down (and so many other things that could easily ruin the film for everyone so I’ll ‘shut the hell up’) – had I been Sergeant I’d have walked away 10 minutes after meeting them.

Now that the venting is done we can at least say they stuck to the original storyline of the original THE PURGE which is good. There are a few twists and turns that are nice with an unexpected ending. We are also in agreement that there will probably be another purge so stay tuned!

In the end – united they purge!
