MONSTERS: The Complete Series on DVD

Jeri Jacquin, Movie Maven

Now on DVD from Entertainment One and executive producer Richard P. Rubinstein comes the amazing collection of MONSTERS: The Complete Series.

Anyone who loves horror on a regular basis must remember this show. I was thrilled that I would have the chance to once again experience the show, but more so now that it’s packaged with every episode. Seriously, this is a weekend of fun.

Most don’t realize that MONSTERS ran for three years which was later shown on the SyFy channel. There are so many amazing things to talk about with this show. From the different time periods with some fantastic set designs, award winning make-up and all wrapped up nicely done story lines.

Another fantastic thing about these episodes is that it is a chance to see some stars from the past and stars that would break out in the future that are here. From my era there is Adrienne Barbeau, Linda Blair, Jeff Conaway, Frank Gorshin and John Saxson! Actors who are now stars now include Steve Buscemi, Frankie Faison, Gina Gershon, Tori Spelling and Rob Morrow.

The DVD contains 72 episodes on 9 DVD’s brought about by Richard P. Rubinstein who also is responsible for bringing us the creepy TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, DAWN OF THE DEAD and one of my favorites CREEPSHOW.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give MONSTERS: The Complete Series four and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. Are you kidding me? This is one of the best collections for horror fans ever. Seriously, the writing is stellar and considering the era this was done (1988-1991) the effects are pretty dang ridiculously cool!

MONSTERS was such an amazing series on television for it’s time. It pushed the audience to the edge of their sofa seats and gave quite a few scares in the process. This is also one of the shows that I believe unknowingly laid the ground work for the shows we experience now on television!

Filled with ironic twists and turns, each episode gave us reason to cheer when the bad guy didn’t see karma waiting in the wings. Basically, MONSTERS gave audiences the satisfaction of knowing not everyone gets away with everything!
