This film tells the story of Bernice (Lisa Gay Hamilton), a parole officer who keeps close tabs on those assigned to her. One day a face from a childhood past comes into her office. Fontayne (Yolanda Ross) is a woman trying to keep her life clean and although obligated to change parole officers due to conflict of interest, Bernice continues as her P.O.

Now Bernice is dealing with the law as a Det. Muller (Don Harvey) is looking for her son in connection with a crime. Fontayne in staying clean is constantly tempted by Wiley (Harold Perrineau) and those who aren’t interested in helping her to stay out of jail. Now the two women are about to embark on a journey together.

Bernice’s son Rodney is missing and after taking Fontayne with her to search, they discover that he is in deep trouble in Mexico. The only person that can help them is Freddy Suarez (Edward James Olmos) who takes both women across the border. What they discover is that the Chinese have taken Rodney and are sending him back to the United States in pieces – but why?

Now Bernice, Fontayne and Suarez are running out of time if they are to find Rodney alive!

FINAL WORD: Hamilton as parole officer Bernice is an interesting character. Filled with judgments about those she keeps tabs on, she doesn’t hesitate to break the law for her own benefit. Jumping into dangerous situations by ones self is one thing, dragging a parolee into it is something altogether wrong. Her performance is a bit self-centered but perhaps that’s the point.

Ross as Fontayne is a woman who is trying to bring her life back. Avoiding people that can drag her down, she is now facing danger with the one person that is supposed to keep her on the straight and narrow! I truly enjoyed Ross’ performance as she tries to understand why she and Bernice lost touch and how the got to this point.

Olmos as Suarez is a man who wants to keep his home and family in tact. Once an officer of the law, he knows how to bend and stretch that same law to get this job done. He truly does want to find Rodney but also knows this could all end badly. It’s a solid performance by Olmos and one I absolutely enjoyed.

Other cast include cameos by: Mahershala Ali as Dez, Martha Higareda as Zeidy, Tessa Ferrer as Katrina, Manny Montana as Tenoch, Jacob Vargas as Navajas, Jesse Borrego as Juan Calles, Jessica Pimentel as La Mojada, Brent Jennings as Dixon, Vanessa Martinez as Chula, Isaiah Washington as Vernell and Hector Elizando as Jorge Menocal.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give GO FOR SISTERS three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. It is a really interesting plot twist with a meshing of cultures as well. Relying mainly on the three characters to tell the story, these actors brought it full force. With twists and turns in the plot along with the rugged terrain as the backdrop – GO FOR SISTERS uses every ounce of story, surroundings and characters to bring it on the screen.

There are some pretty heavyweight cameos in this film and with Olmos Productions behind the film it is fantastic to see it all come full circle.

In the end – how far would you go for a friend?
