Coming to DVD this week from director Akiva Shaffer, 21 Laps Entertainment and 20th Century Fox comes a neighborhood that has “The Watch”.

This film tells the story of Evan (Ben Stiller), a man who not only is the manager of Costco but also is constantly on the movie with book clubs and jogging teams. His wife Abby (Rosemaire DeWitt) wants to spend more time with her man.

Showing up to work one morning Evan discovers one of his employees has been murdered. Deciding this is unacceptable; he reaches out to his community to begin a neighborhood watch. Opening up his home for a meeting, three prospects show up.

Bob (Vince Vaughn) is a man’s man who is going through a father/daughter crisis, Franklin (Jonah Hill) a man with anger issues and police rejection, and finally Jamarcus (Richard Ayoade) who has a dream he needs realized.

Evan tries to keep the guys under control while sweeping the neighborhood for a murderer.

FINAL WORD: Stiller once again plays the good-guy who is stuck in his ways. As an employee of Costco he will do what ever it takes to protect his job but kind of forgets the family along the way. As Stiller does he brings it all around and turns into the hero!

Vaughn also gets a chance to play a dad to a teenage daughter. Their interaction is hilarious and, as a Mom, understandable in its craziness. He does have some interesting ideas of neighborhood watch that might be fun in anyone’s neighborhood!

Hill is hilarious with his rages and need to control everything. Yes, I’ve seen Hill play this type of character before but it totally works in this comedy.

The winner here is Ayoade as Jamarcus! He is simply charming and hilarious at the same time. The things that come out of his mouth are hilarious; especially the way Avoade delivers the lines with such innocence.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give “The Watch” three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. There are moments of jaw dropping laughs and silliness that fans of Stiller, Vaughn and Hill have come to love and pretty much expect.

The DVD contains a fair amount of extras that are fun to take a moment to watch. I have to say that their escapades with the “alien” had me pretty much thinking “yea, I’d do that!”

For all fans that love Stiller, who love Vaughn and who love Hill then this is a DVD with all three doing what they do best – that’s acting outrageous in a comedy that certainly doesn’t have any boundaries.

In the end – keeps your eyes open for the watch!
