Coming to DVD from director Dong-hoo Choi and Well Go USA Entertainment comes a high stake gamble with THE THIEVES.

This film tells the story of Macau Park (Yun-seok Kim), a thief who brings together only the best for the biggest heist they’ve ever done. Along with Yenicall (Gianna Jun), Chewingum (Hae-suk Kim), Zampano (Soo Hyun Kim), Julie (Angelica Lee), Popeye (Jung-Jai Lee), Andrew (Dal-su Oh), Johnny (Kwok Cheung Tsang) and Chen (Simon Yam) – their goal is a yellow diamond known as the ‘Tear of the Sun’.

Each thief has a talent that will lend itself to the successful heist. The 318-carat diamond is in the safe at the Crown Casino. As the planning evolves, each thief tells their own story and their reason for following Park.

Park himself has a score to settle with the diamond’s owner and nothing, or no one will get in his way.

FINAL WORD: Kim as Park brings the group together and this fine actor keeps them together. His character is very low key yet he keeps his eye on each of the other thieves never missing a beat.

June as Yenicall plays the double role of comic relief and master safecracker. She knows what she wants and isn’t about to give anything away easy. Trusting isn’t something that comes easy. Lee as Julie is brought in to help the team and mixes in conveniently. Oh as Andrew, Tsang as Johnny and Lee as Popeye keep their eye on the prize.

Two surprises for me are Simon Yam who I thought was fantastic in both IP MAN and IP MAN 2. The other is Kim Hae-suk who also stars in the 2009 film THIRST which again I believe is a fantastically made film with a storyline that’s unexpected.

THE THIEVES is made available by Well Go USA Entertainment that specializes in bringing the best in Asian Cinema to North America. With over 2,000 releases since 1994 go to www.wellgousa.com to discover other fantastic releases!

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give THE THIEVES three and a half tubs of popcorn out of five. This film could easily have gone in the wrong direction with so many important points but it doesn’t. Instead director Choi interweaves it all together with action and suspense. It’s difficult to write about the film without giving anything away and I love that about this film.

The cast plays this beautifully never giving anything away until its absolutely necessary. Waiting for each thief’s story to be told just adds another layer until it culminates into the old saying ‘whom do you trust?’

In the end – all for the money, one for the revenge and every man for himself!
