The film documentary tells the humble beginnings to the unfortunate end of the brilliant career of Bruce Lee. The film has clips of Lee himself discussing his thoughts about martial arts, acting and his dreams.

The film also delves deeply into his fascinating life through his own words but also Lee’s family, close friends and an array of sports figures and entertainers. Using rare and archival footage I AM BRUCE LEE is a must see.

FINAL WORD: I have to say this is one of the most beautifully done documentaries about Bruce Lee that I’ve seen – and for several reasons. Learning of his history in China before coming to America, meeting wife Linda while in school in 1964 to being cast as Kato in THE GREEN HORNET in 1967.

Learning of the love for philosophy as part of training he began a school in Hollywood with clients such as Chuck Norris, James Coburn, James Garner, Steve McQueen and Roman Polanski brings about his “Intercepting Fist” and the JKL style of martial arts.

All of this culminating to his exposing career with the 1971 FISTS OF FURY, 1972 THE CHINESE CONNECTION and THE WAY OF THE DRAGON. In 1973 it would be ENTER THE DRAGON that put Bruce Lee into the cosmos with star status. It would also be his last film.

Interviews include: Mickey Rourke, Joe Ruiz, Paul Rodrigues, Gina Carano, Dana White, David Tadman, Bob Wall, Dr. Bowman, Teri Tom, Ed O’Neill, Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, Cung Le, Jon Jones, Reginald Hudlin, Kobe Bryant, Taboo (Black Eyed Peas), Manny Pacquio, Dan Insanto, Diana Lee Insanto, Richard Bustillo and Gene Lebell.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give I AM BRUCE LEE three tubs of popcorn out of five. This documentary is a chance for many to learn things about Bruce Lee that may have not known before (without giving anything away). It is amazing to learn how people still find something in his legacy to apply to their own lives today.

It is equally as fascinating to see the footage of Lee explaining his beliefs, his discoveries in martial arts and to hear from Linda and daughter Shannon of the effect his death still has on the family.

Bruce Lee has become a symbol for many as someone who brought cultures together teaching them to stand up for their beliefs. His charm, humor and “water never goes stale” beliefs have kept him a beloved icon.

In the end – he expressed himself honestly!
