Coming to DVD this week from director Alexia Anastasio and Cinema Libre Studios comes the story of Bill Plympton with ADVENTURES IN PLYMPTOONS!

This documentary tells the life story of Bill Plympton, one of the most iconic illustrators in the world. Falling in love with drawing at a young age while living in Portland, Oregon he drew every chance available.

After college, Plympton began to illustrate for such publications as the New Yorker, Playboy, Rolling Stones and Vanity Fair. His illustrations eventually led to his films YOUR FACE in 1987 and GUARD DOG in 2005. Also in 2005, Plympton had pieces appear on MTV’s “Liquid Television” and “Cartoon Sushi”.

He also began working in with people in the music industry such as Kanye West and ‘Heard Em Say’ and Weird Al Yankovic’s ‘Don’t Download This Song’. He also couldn’t resist a piece for THE SIMPSONS episode ‘Beware my Cheating Bart’.

FINAL WORD: This truly is an amazing look into the life of the man that is responsible for some of the most outrageous illustrations ever! Throughout the entire documentary viewers are treated to some of the most awesome and famous work Plympton has done to date.

It is funny, lighthearted, informative and curious traveling through his life looking to understand what goes on in his mind! Friends and acquaintances speak so highly of Plympton and tell such fantastic stories of where he has been and where they think he is going.

Plympton says of ADVENTURES IN PLYMPTOON!, “The decision that everybody has to make – I mean, do you want to work for a company that gives you good money, health benefits, good security,  your films are seen everywhere, you’re taken care of, you probably make a lot more money than I do, or do you want to be independent…I chose the independent route, and I’m glad I did.”

Those that share their views and feelings about Plympton include Terry Gilliam, Ed Begley, Jr., Keith Carradine, David Silverman, Chris Wedge, Weird Al Yankovic, Matthew Modine, Martha Plimpton, Moby, and Tom Kenny. They do so through personal stories and in one case – a song!

Director Alexia Anastasio says of her work, “Priority of the film is to have fun making it, promoting it, screening it and make people laugh. We hope to encourage others that they can make art independently”.

ADVENTURES IN PLYMPTOONS  has won an award from the Tribeca Film Grant Recipient, ’10 Degrees Hotter’ Award from the Valley Film Festival and Best Documentary from Indie Talent. The DVD also includes extras with trailers, Bill Plympton Day, “The Toonist” and deleted scenes.

TUBS OF POPCORN: I give ADVENTURES IN PLYMPTONS four tubs of popcorn out of five. I truly enjoyed getting to know the life and times of the man behind the crazy illustrations. The documentary is wild, colorful, wonderful, outrageous, hilarious and worth every moment to watch! To read more on the film go to http://www.adventuresinplymptoons.com/.

In the end – this is inside the method and madness of the King of Indie Animation!
