Date Street Beach Access Opened to the Public

A City of Imperial Beach Public Works crew took down the barriers at the end of Date Street along the beachfront this afternoon in order to provide full and public access to this important beach access area in Imperial Beach.

Special thanks to Imperial Beach Public Works Director Hank Levine and City Manager Andy Hall for prioritizing the opening of the street end after it was brought to their attention. After vehicle access was provided recently,  pedestrian access to the beach was blocked by a removable wooden and metal barrier.

The street end was designed to have a removable barrier to prevent flooding from large storms and surf. During the contruction of the Pier South Hotel, the Date Street beach access area was closed to the public.

The Date Street beach access is the heart and soul of Northside surf and beach culture in Imperial Beach and the community is elated to have again have access to the beach there.
