The 2012 San Diego County Fair is underway and awards have been posted.
Within the Creative Youth category, that is the 5 to 17-year-old artists, The Art Kids of San Diego County again represented the south bay well with 27 first place blue ribbons.
The youth organization entered 27 pieces of art from most all mediums, painting, drawing, sculpting and photography. They all captured the first place blue ribbon from their various disciplines, bringing honor to the south bay area.
Three of the art students captured five out of five first place blue ribbons. The highly decorated winners were 16-year-old Vanessa Schnurer from Coronado High School, who won two for her paintings, two for her photography and one for her illustration.
15-year-old Austin Hoffman from Mar Vista won two for photography, one for his illustration, one for painting and one for sculpting and 11 year old Ily Alfred from Ocean Hills Christian Academy won two for her paintings, two for photography and one for illustration. Each young artist won blue ribbons for their incredible talents. Vanessa also captured a special award for her photography, making six awards altogether that she will be taking home when the fair is over.
The Art Kid program prepares these young people for events such as these and helps them create from their own minds. The year around program challenges them in such a manner as to provide subjects that will exercise their imagination and allow them to learn the various important techniques that make them into fine artists.
They will be working with the Port of San Diego in two upcoming events this month where they can exhibit their talents for all to see.
