Final Analysis of City's Handling The Art Kids of San Diego County and What Was Their Real Violation

Final Chapter of the city vs. The Art Kids

It is very clear to this resident of Imperial Beach that the local city employees have tried to lie their way through the mistakes they made in prohibiting The Art Kids of San Diego County from using any public park for a period of seven weeks.

First the initial complaint and had nothing to do with any violation within Imperial Beach. Therefore the initial complaint was invalid and should have never taken place.

Second, the use of the parks.

I have watched the park in question for the total time that the city did not allow the kids to use the park. Only one Saturday was there a lack of tables and that was during Memorial Day weekend.

Every other Saturday the tables were indeed available for use by all who wanted to use them. Did the city even investigate the complaint to see if it was valid?

The answer must be NO because they are too lazy to get off their chairs and see what really is the issue. It is this citizen's belief that they had to make up something so that they did not look so bad.

The city is not concerned with the conditions that exist within the city because they are too busy trying not to do their jobs. During one of busiest weekends of our year, Memorial Day Weekend, the city did not have a safe way to walk down Seacoast Drive.

There was no sidewalk access on either side of the street where the hotel is being built and next to The Wave Cafe. to get where they were going. Did anyone from the Mayor's office or city council do anything about this condition? How about the city manager and his crew?

No, this situation lasted for more than ten days and luckily no one was hurt.

"The Art Kids get written up for some unknown reason and yet there were two artists painting the side of a truck across from the Farmer's Market where everyone could see them. The police passed by a number of times and did not notice that these artists had open containers of quart bottles of Coors.

The police did not just pass by once or twice but at least four times. Yet, The Art Kids get written up for what? Maybe we should be written up for the incredible job we did for by painting a 40-foot mural and two utility boxes.

Maybe we should be written up for supplying all the paint and brushes for those projects without any cost to the city, the school or anyone else.

What is wrong with this city when kids with great talent are punished and convicted without any investigation.

We were found guilty without proof. Even a criminal is given the right to defend himself.

The Art Kids of San Diego County were not even given that right. The Kids have served this community well and then they are treated like a criminal without any rights. Most residents in Imperial Beach don't care because it doesn't bother them. Yet when they are approached and detained they yell and yell loud and then wonder why no one listens.

The city's handling of this was a disgrace and still is. The resolve was that The Art Kids can only use four tables in front of instead of six. Wow, it took the city all that time to make that decision. How fantastic is that? To save face they handed down a decision that made no sense. They took up much time and made it look as though they did something.

The only thing they did was the political scuffle and I for one am tired of this lack of concern. The City of Imperial Beach did nothing except punish our young people who did nothing to them except do their best to make Imperial Beach a beautiful place to live.
