Do Good Project and The Art Kids Create New Atmosphere at Central Elementary School

The Do Good Project painted and helped plant gardens at Central Elementary School.

Music, volunteers, paint, gardening and handprints were all part of the, "Do Good Project," Saturday at Central Elementary School located on the corner of Ebony and 13th Street in Imperial Beach.

Supervising and assisting in the painting were The Art Kids of San Diego County. Two very large utility boxes and one wall were transformed by a large number of volunteers of all ages. They were there to make a difference and their mission was successful.

Along with the one mural and the two painted utility boxes, a walkway of hand prints was a vegetable and flower garden were planted.

These all brought new life to the elementary school. The Art Kids were there to assist and to help with the painting.

15-year-old Austin Hoffman helped supervise the mural painting and it was really great to see adults taking lessons from the kids. 14-year-old Anais Gaunin and her brother, 12-year-old Mark-Yves Gaunin provided guidance to adults and kids alike. They really enjoyed teaching the teachers that were there painting. Anais and Mark-Yves were tickled when they showed the teachers how to create and paint sea creatures on the mural wall.

Supervising the two utility boxes were Bri Atterberry, Ines Nefzi and Briana Casillas. Bri Atterberry is the newest addition to, "The Art Kids as she is their new lead artist and instructor. Wow, can she paint.

Mr. Lopez, the principal of Central, was there overlooking all the festivities and enjoying the artistic atmosphere. At day's end the Do Good Project had another successful event and accomplished what they had set out to do. There now exists a new positive community spirit within the Central Elementary school and it is just beginning to grow.
